History of the house

Ca' del Glicine is a typical Venetian palazzetto  of the renaissance period: the term Ca' is short for casa, or house, and the Glicine is the beautiful wisteria that flowers abundantly in the garden and gives the house its name. The windows of the piano nobile (the second, or "grand floor") are framed by byzantine horseshoe-shaped arches.
The main façade, with a 15th century  ground-floor arcade, lies on the Fondamenta delle Zattere, a charming and elegant walk on the quaiside, with a convenient waterbus (vaporetto) stop, waterside cafes, a lovely view of the island of Giudecca and of the church of the Redentore, and a perfect spot to admire the sunset.
The back of the house is graced by a lovely private garden on the ground floor and a spacious terrace on the piano nobile, which overlooks the picturesque squero (boatyard) of San Trovaso, where new gondolas are hand-crafted and old ones repaired - and the bell-tower of San Trovaso, one of the city's most beautiful churches, rich in history and artistic treasures.
Venice is divided into six ancient district or sestieri; Ca' del Glicine is in the Sestiere of Dorsoduro, home to a lively mix of students, tourists, and locals. It is a charming neighbourhood of small squares, narrow alleys, quiet canals and picturesque residences, nestled between the imposing palaces on the Grand Canal, where the famous Historical Regatta takes place every September, and the Canal della Giudecca. The heart of the sestiere is Campo Santa Margherita: the square bustles with activity, particularly in the morning, when the market stalls are open. The numerous open-air cafes serve a particularly delicious gelato (the Italian ice-cream) and are lively at night-time.
The Dorsoduro also hosts several major collections of art, notably the Accademia Gallery and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection of 20th century art. The churches are also rich in repositories of paintings and sculptures, like the church of the Gesuati - right next to Ca' del Glicine - with ceilings painted by Giambattista Tiepolo.

The apartment for rent is located at the ground floor and it has a lovely private private garden, quiet and very spacious, which makes this house the ideal setting for an unforgettable vacation. It may be rented year-round, by the week or just for a few days.
